Hello my little wedges!!! (FYI for anyone who doesn’t know their Vel Veeta lore, wedges is how I referred to anyone who was a Vel supporter, as in a wedge of cheese. I’ve thus decided to carry this over to any and everyone important to me ❤ ) It’s (almost) April and surprisingly the world hasn’t already been reduced to highly irradiated rubble. Apologies for missing last week’s Slice- I did not have my laptop and had very infrequent internet connection. But the bitch is back! So please sit back, sip your coffee, hit your vape and let’s get into it.

Community Event: Babe Vote: Pro-Democracy, Pro-Library, Anti-Book Ban Event (Seattle)
We all like to read, right? And I don’t just mean reading a bitch down (although that can be very fun, too amirite?) Libraries are essential public spaces to help educate, connect, and sometimes even just provide safe spaces for us all. Charlie’s Queer Books is hosting Babe Vote TOMORROW from 5:00-6:00 PM at their store. At the event, you can learn more about the recent huge uptick in book banning (this even started pre-Trump) and the Trump administration’s move to sever the main funding pipeline to many libraries. More importantly, this event is to connect like-minded folks who want to protect our libraries and provide options for how to take action. If you’re interested, RSVP here.

Hands Off Rally and Protest (Seattle, but events nationwide)
Are you angry with how things (gestures around wildly) are going? If you’re not at least a little bit I’ve got my eye on you, but also why are you here?? This upcoming Saturday (April 5th) Evergreen Resistance and Seattle Indivisible have organized Hands Off!- an afternoon of rallying, a protest, and a variety of speakers, including house rep Pramila Jayapal, former governor Jay Inslee, and port commissioner Hamdi Mohammed. This will also be a fantastic opportunity to get connected to local organizations that align with your interests that you’d like to connect with and learn of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. The event begins at 12:00 noon next Saturday (4/5) at Seattle Center. For more detailed information on the event, check out this page here.
Are you not Seattle based but want to know if similar events are happening in your area? 50501 has a plethora of other events across the U.S. listed on their website here. If you’re Puget Sound based and want some other options hosted by Evergreen Resistance, check out their events page here.

Community Event: Aqui Mercado (Seattle)
Ok so you’re probably wondering “Matt, you’re crazy. This event already happened, why are you posting this?” Well Helen, because it’s monthly! You silly bitch. Aqui Mercado is an LGBTQ+ / Latino owned monthly pop up mercado focused on Latinx + Queer community in Seattle. Me and some friends attended this month’s on Friday and it was FANTASTIC. It’s a great way to connect with friends, meet new people, and support local Latinx vendors and artists. As a reminder: WE SHOULD ALL BE SUPPORTING LATINX FOLKS RIGHT NOW. More than ever. Although next month’s date hasn’t been set yet, it should be around the last weekend of April. Check out their Instagram page for updates and upcoming events.
Well there we are folks. Happy Sunday, happy Eid al-Fitr, happy that we’re all still here existing. Giving y’all a signature #BesoDeQueso and a hug.
