Hi friends, lovers, family, and MORTAL ENEMIES. Each week brings with it a new fresh hell, but the world keeps spinning. It always has. It always will. Until the inevitable implosion of the sun and obliteration of everything we’ve ever known and will ever know (big slay). Kind of helps put things into perspective, right? It’s crazy how- at the same time- nothing in the world matters, but yet everything matters as well. It can’t be overstated how significant, beautiful and impactful each and every one of us are. We bring joy to our friends and family. We brighten up the lives of those around us. We impact our immediate surroundings. Which in turn impacts our perception of the world around us. And, as sensory based creatures, perception is quite literally everything. It’s a mindfuck. It always has been, and always will be.
Anyways, I promise I didn’t take any peyote before writing this or anything. Sometimes I feel the need to express these thoughts to try and save myself from being swallowed up by the swirling vortex of fear I think we’re all feeling right now.
Equally as important is recognizing your power and agency in times like this. You can CHOOSE to influence your sphere, however small it may be. You can CHOOSE to take action, however small, to try and make a better future. You can CHOOSE to not be a self serving, arrogant asshole (unless you’re Katy Perry- lol sorry that’ll be my only Katy dig in this post I promise). I’m choosing to do whatever small things I can to try and help my friends and family see that they too have agency to spread good in their spheres. Truly, it’s all we can do.
Ok, with all that being said, here are my recommendations for this week’s Sunday Slice.
Sunday Slice- 2/23/2025

Volunteering and Community Building- Seattle Community Fridge (Seattle- Washington)
I first mentioned Seattle Community Fridge a few weeks ago as a Seattle area mutual aid group which maintains and stocks a network of public fridges with free food. It provides an easy first foray into the mutual aid world, and I would love to do it with you all.
There is a new member orientation meeting on Saturday, 3/15 at noon. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members, learn what the group does, and discuss future works. If you’re interested in being a part of this group and volunteering, please register here. I will be meeting with them this Sunday and am happy to help answer any questions or get you connected if you’re interested but feeling a bit hesitant or shy. Let’s help keep our neighbors fed.

Civic Engagement- Call your Representatives
I feel like I keep shouting into the void that we have to KEEP OUR FEET ON OUR POLITICIANS’ NECKS. I know it might feel pointless. I know you might be wondering WHY. Well, being as annoying as possible and making sure that their phone and/or email lines are full helps get the point across that we are FUCKING ANGRY.
Maybe you don’t know exactly what to say, which is very valid. Well, with this tool that’s not an excuse now. 5 Calls is a simple online tool which provides easy scripts you can read from for a variety of topics. So now when you leave a voicemail or talk with someone in their office, all you have to do is read the script. No more awkwardness. DO IT.

Volunteer and Community Building- Family Soup (Reno- Nevada)
You know I couldn’t not include a Reno option in here for helping to feed our neighbors, right? Family Soup is a mutual aid group providing fresh, hot meals for the Reno community. They meet every Tuesday at 5-6 PM at the Believe Plaza (downtown) to distribute. If you’d like to cook and bring food- great! Feel free to sign up here. Would you prefer to donate instead? Awesome!! Their Venmo is @FamilySoupMutualAid. Please help keep our neighbors fed, especially through this harsh winter.
I end this newsletter with an ask: do something. Anything. We all have so much to give. We also have so much to lose.
Love you all,
-Vel/Matt/Katy Perry’s #1 hater
